Furnace Installation and Repair in Salmon Arm and the Shuswap
Furnace repair, replacement, and yearly service for natural gas and propane furnaces across the Shuswap. Free estimates, and a 24/7 emergency line for when the heat goes out.
Furnace giving you trouble?
Most furnace calls start with something that just doesn't seem right. These are the ones we see most:
- No heat at all, or a furnace that starts and then shuts itself off
- Cold air coming out of the vents
- Short cycling, where it turns on and off every few minutes
- Some rooms too hot while others never warm up
- Banging, rattling, or squealing that wasn't there last winter
- Heating bills that keep creeping up
We'll diagnose the problem instead of just treating symptoms. And, if your furnace is getting older, we'll give you an estimate for the repair and another for a replacement, so you can decide which way makes more sense for you.
No heat on a cold night? Call (250) 832-5846 any time, day or night. If you ever smell gas, leave the building first. Once you're outside, call 911 and FortisBC's 24-hour emergency line at 1-800-663-9911, or your propane supplier's emergency line if you're on tank propane. Then call us for the repair.
Why the yearly furnace check matters
Technical Safety BC (opens in a new tab) recommends having every heating appliance in your home serviced once a year, and poor maintenance is one of the main causes behind the carbon monoxide incidents they investigate (opens in a new tab). A furnace can run for years with a problem you can't see or smell, so the yearly visit is about safety as much as it's about efficiency.
On a furnace service we:
- Inspect the heat exchanger for cracks
- Test for carbon monoxide
- Check the venting, all the way to where it leaves the house
- Test the safety controls
- Clean the burners and check the flame
- Change the filter
Early fall is the best time to book, before you actually need the heat. And if you don't already have carbon monoxide alarms, put one on every level of the house. They're the backup to everything on that list.
When it's time for a new furnace
ENERGY STAR (opens in a new tab) suggests looking at a replacement once a furnace is more than 15 years old, especially if it needs frequent repairs and your bills keep going up. Furnaces have come a long way in that time, too. Every gas furnace manufactured for Canada since July 2019 has to be at least 95% efficient (opens in a new tab), so if yours is older, a new one can heat the same house on less gas.
A new furnace is sized to your house. One that's too big heats in short bursts, leaves cold spots, and costs more to run. We also look at the rest of the system before we quote, so the price covers the whole job:
- Ductwork. We check it as part of the estimate, because a new furnace pushing air through tired or dirty ducts won't deliver what it should.
- Venting. High-efficiency furnaces vent out through the wall in plastic pipe and drain off their own condensation. If your water heater shares the old chimney, it may need a liner or new venting of its own once the furnace moves out.
- Steadier heat. Two-stage and modulating furnaces run at a lower output most of the time, which means more even temperatures and fewer blasts of hot air. We'll explain the options and price them so you can pick.
- Dry or stuffy air. A whole-home humidifier helps with the static shocks, dry skin, and gapping floorboards that come with a Shuswap winter, and an HRV brings in fresh air for homes with condensation on the windows.
Dual fuel
A furnace and a heat pump, working together
If you like the idea of a heat pump but aren't ready to give up gas, a dual fuel system gives you both. A ducted heat pump does all the cooling in summer and most of the heating through spring, fall, and milder winter days. When it gets properly cold outside, the furnace takes over on its own. To qualify for a rebate in our part of the province, that switchover has to be set at 2°C or lower, so the heat pump carries a real share of the work.
On propane? CleanBC has its own dual fuel rebate for homes heated with tank propane, worth up to $12,000 depending on household income. Like every CleanBC rebate, you'll need to pre-register before anything goes in.
And if you'd rather be done with gas altogether, have a look at our heat pumps page.

Meet the crewCommon questions
How much does a new furnace cost in Salmon Arm?
It depends on the size of the house, the venting, and what the ductwork needs, so we'd rather look than guess. The estimate is free, and you get the price before any work starts. Financing is available through Financeit if you'd like to spread out the cost.
Should I repair my furnace or replace it?
If it's fairly young and the problem is a worn part, repair it. If it's past 15 years, the repairs are getting more frequent, or the heat exchanger is cracked, replacing it usually makes more sense. We'll give you a price for both and leave the choice with you.
How often should a furnace be serviced?
Once a year, ideally in early fall. That's Technical Safety BC's recommendation for every home heating appliance, whatever it runs on. Between visits, keep an eye on the filter and change it when it looks dirty.
Do you work on propane furnaces?
Yes. We install and service both natural gas and propane furnaces, including in rural homes and cabins that aren't on the gas line.
Are you licensed for gas work?
Yes. Ecoflow is a licensed gas contractor with Technical Safety BC, licence LGA0209457, and every furnace we install gets a permit and an inspection.
My furnace quit in the middle of the night. Can you come?
Yes. Call (250) 832-5846 any time. Outside weekday business hours there's a callout fee, and it's higher than the daytime rate. You'll hear what it is on the phone, before anyone gets in the truck.
