Highly recommend this company. Thank you Patti! Friendly, efficient and professional customer service. Paul arrived within the time the text indicated. I was blown away by the information shared via texts (including photo) regarding the technician that would be attending. Paul was very helpful in explaining the process. Was so thankful for his knowledge and honest feedback and opinion. I wouldn't hesitate to call this company if needed in the future. It's so nice to know that Salmon Arm has a reliable service company for gas appliances. Thank you!
Gas Lines and Appliance Hookups in Salmon Arm and the Shuswap
Gas lines run, extended, and hooked up for ranges, BBQs, fireplaces, and shop heaters, on natural gas or propane. We're a licensed gas contractor, and estimates are free.
What we hook up
If it runs on gas, we can probably hook it up. We run new gas lines, extend the ones you have, and connect:
- Ranges, ovens, and cooktops, including switching an electric kitchen over to gas
- BBQs, with a quick-connect outlet on the deck or patio, so the grill unplugs when you put it away
- Gas fireplaces and inserts
- Garage and shop heaters
- Furnaces, boilers, and water heaters
- Lines out to shops, garages, and outbuildings
Adding an appliance isn't always as simple as teeing into the nearest pipe. A gas line is sized for everything it feeds, and Technical Safety BC (opens in a new tab) warns that an undersized line can starve the appliances on it, with carbon monoxide and early heat exchanger failure among the results. So before we add anything, we check that the line can carry the extra load. If it's a big addition, your meter may need upgrading too, which FortisBC (opens in a new tab) handles, and we'll tell you at the estimate if that's likely.
If you smell gas
Natural gas and propane both carry an added smell, like rotten eggs, so you'll know a leak when you smell one. If you do:
- Leave the building right away, and take everyone with you. Don't flip light switches, use the phone, or start a car in an attached garage on your way out. A spark can be enough.
- Once you're outside and well away, call 911 and FortisBC's 24-hour emergency line at 1-800-663-9911, or your propane supplier's emergency line if you're on tank propane.
- Don't go back in until the fire department or your gas supplier says it's safe.
- Then call us for the repair.
Carbon monoxide is the other gas hazard, and it has no smell at all. The BC Building Code requires CO alarms in new homes (opens in a new tab) with a fuel-burning appliance, and Technical Safety BC is looking at requiring them in existing homes too. If you have any gas appliance, put a CO alarm on every level of the house.
Natural gas or propane
Out past the gas mains, propane does the same jobs natural gas does in town: furnaces, boilers, water heaters, ranges, fireplaces, and heaters. You can lease your tank (opens in a new tab) from your propane supplier or buy it outright. Either way, we take it from there: the line from the tank to the house, and every appliance connection inside.
Switching fuels? Many appliances can be converted between natural gas and propane, but it's more than swapping a part. Propane runs at a different pressure, so a conversion (opens in a new tab) takes the manufacturer's approved kit, with new orifices and the regulator set for the new fuel, installed and tested by a licensed gas fitter. Not every appliance has a kit, and on an older one, a new appliance can cost less than converting it. We'll tell you which way makes sense.
Gas fireplaces and inserts
We install gas fireplaces and inserts, run the line, and set up the venting.
If you've got an existing fireplace, especially an older one, we service those too. It's really common for a fireplace to sit all summer without running, then not burn properly when you light it in the fall. When that happens, we'll take it apart, give it a good cleaning, and figure out what the issue is. Often the cleaning alone gets it running again, but sometimes it needs replacement parts.
Technical Safety BC (opens in a new tab) recommends servicing every home heating appliance once a year, and its bulletin covers gas fireplaces, inserts, and log sets specifically.
A safety note for homes with small kids: fireplace glass can reach 200 to 300°C (opens in a new tab) and stays hot long after the flames are out. Gas fireplaces made since 2015 have to be installed with a safety screen in front of the glass, but plenty of older ones don't have one. If yours doesn't, ask us: if a screen is made for your fireplace, we can order one in.
We recently brought Paul and his team out to our hotel in Revelstoke to service our gas fireplaces. With over 185 units completed, the scale of the project was significant, but Ecoflow delivered exceptional workmanship, seamless communication, and total professionalism throughout. They are reliable, efficient, and highly recommended. We will certainly be bringing them back for future work.
Garage and shop heaters
A gas heater is the quick way to make a garage or shop usable in winter. There are two kinds, and we install both:
- Unit heaters hang from the ceiling and blow warm air with a fan. They warm the space quickly, and they're the ones we install most.
- Radiant tube heaters run a long, hot tube near the ceiling that warms the floor, the vehicles, and the people under it rather than the air. They suit (opens in a new tab) big, tall, or drafty buildings, where warm air would just rise or escape out the door.
We size the heater to the space, run the gas line, and set up the venting. Pouring a new slab? In-floor heat is worth a look before the concrete goes in.
Licensed, permitted, and pressure tested
Ecoflow is a licensed gas contractor with Technical Safety BC, licence LGA0209457, and you can look that number up yourself. Every job we do gets a gas permit, and every new line is pressure tested before an appliance goes on it.
Can you do gas work yourself? In BC, many homeowners can take out a homeowner gas permit (opens in a new tab), though not owners of a strata unit or a duplex, or anyone running a business from home, and the work has to be inspected. It's allowed, but gas is one place where a mistake doesn't just leak water, so most people would rather it was done by someone who does it every day.

Meet the crewCommon questions
How much does it cost to run a gas line?
It depends on how far the line has to go, the size of pipe the appliances need, and how hard the route is to get through. We'll come and look, the estimate is free, and you'll have the price before any work starts.
Do I need a permit to hook up a BBQ?
For a new gas line or a built-in BBQ, yes. Technical Safety BC (opens in a new tab) requires a permit for installing gas piping and built-in gas barbecues. Once there's a quick-connect outlet, plugging a replacement BBQ into it doesn't need one.
Can you switch my electric range to gas?
Yes. If there's natural gas at the house, we run a line to the kitchen with its own shutoff. If there isn't, propane is an option, and the range will need to be a propane model or converted with the manufacturer's kit.
Can you convert an appliance from natural gas to propane?
Often, yes, if the manufacturer makes a conversion kit for it. The kit changes the orifices and the regulator setting, and a licensed gas fitter installs and tests it. If there's no kit, or the appliance is old, we'll tell you whether a new one makes more sense.
My gas fireplace won't stay lit. Can you fix it?
Usually. We'll find out why it's going out, and it's often a cleaning or a small part. While we're there, we'll service the rest of it, which Technical Safety BC recommends once a year anyway.
Do you work on propane?
Yes. Propane is common on rural properties without a gas line. We run the line from the tank to the house and connect everything inside.
